WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING

STOP JACKDAW

The Fossil Fuel Bank Action group campaigned on North Street distributing leaflets and encouraging Brighton people to sign the national petition against development of the Jackdaw North Sea oil field. Shell is the chief culprit but both Barclays and HSBC are investing.

Burning the gas in Jackdaw would create the same amount of pollution as half of Scotland’s annual emissions or more than Ghana’s entire annual emissions. We've seen what 1.2C degrees of warming does here and across the world. We can't afford new oil and gas fields.   On August 20th, we take the fight back to the Government, to Shell and to every oil and gas producer who thinks that can burn our future and get away with it.

REBELLION BUS VISITING BRIGHTON

Preparations for the Brighton visit of the Rebellion bus on Sunday 18th September are well advanced. After a tour of the city to attract attention it will park on The Level and become the venue for a Peoples’ Assembly 3 – 4 pm. There will be family activities, games, block printing, dancing to the Samba band, information from Scientists and much more. To join the planning and contribute to the day request access to the Telegram chat Rebellion Tour Bus – Sun 18th Sept. Contact @katehow

We'd love to have our Climate Cycle there to give the event a bit of a buzz!

Can you help us make it happen?

We'd love volunteers that can help for a few hours or the whole day to steward, cycle, packing up or packing down.

FUNDED SUPPORT FOR CHARGED REBELS

Support is available for XR rebels with charges relating to an arrest at an XR action (or sister action) where the case is to be heard in a Magistrates Court. Support for Crown Court cases differs so please get in touch directly on legalfinancialsupport@riseup.net

Access to Justice

Access to Justice support is available from a selection of pre-approved protest experienced solicitor firms across the UK. The support typically includes: pre first hearing review of your case, obtaining and reviewing of the prosecution evidence (eg the body worn video), advice on potential defences and the potential financial and legal consequences and their implications. This support will help you make your plea decision. If your Access to Justice solicitor thinks you have a strong technical defence they may suggest that XR funds your defence in full.

This scheme covers cases where legal aid is not available. Your solicitor will assess your eligibility for legal aid as part of the Access to Justice support.

How to apply

Following your arrest, make sure you notify XR Arrestee and Legal Support. This can be done either through the https://arrestwatch.info/pss page, or by emailing xr-arrestwelfare@protonmail.com. This first step is essential to ensure you receive financial support. Please keep Arrest Welfare updated on the status of your case, for instance if the police advise they are taking no further action, or if you have been charged, so that relevant information and support can be provided.

For more information see https://informeddissent.info

And remember the Charged Defendants chat: a group for rebels charged due to XR actions, to offer each other support and receive guidance from members of XR arrestee and legal support. Joining link - https://t.me/joinchat/udYhfTybWmQ5ODY8
