WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING?
STOP THE POLICE, CRIME, SENTENCING AND COURTS BILL
On Saturday Jan 8th, XR Brighton protested outside Brighton Police Station. Soon even a noisy demonstration like this may be illegal. Elements of this draconian bill, currently with the Lords, would mean that anyone causing ‘A Public Nuisance’ could face prison sentences of up to 10 years. We must stop this bill. More details of the bill can be found here:
If you want to help stop the bill, please make your views known to the Lords. Details of how to contact Lords and what to say are here. Please act before January 17th.
WHAT’S NEXT?
MARCH IN LONDON ON SATURDAY JANUARY 15TH TO STOP THE POLICE, CRIME, SENTENCING AND COURTS BILL.
Brighton XR will be joining groups from all over the UK in London next Saturday to protest against the bill. Join us. 12pm, at Lincoln’s Inn Fields.. The nearest tube stations are Holborn and Chancery Lane.

NO NEW ROADS!
The Government is ploughing ahead with building new roads in a climate emergency. They anticipate 50% more cars on our roads when they should be asking us to reduce car use between 20-50% (according to Green Alliance Report, Dec 2021)
Roads destroy nature, they are carbon intensive to build and the expansion of the road network induces more car use. Car dependency is a leading form of air pollution and carbon emissions. We need a transport system fit for the 21st century that is less resource hungry and low carbon.

Divest East Sussex will be gathering outside Brighton Town Hall on Thursday Feb 3rd to protest about the ongoing lack of representation for Brighton residents on the East Sussex Pension committee. Did you know that almost a third of the funds invested by the East Sussex Pension Fund come from Brighton and Hove Council employees? East Sussex County Council has £74 million pounds invested in fossil fuels through its pension scheme. Join us on Feb 3rd to make your voice heard.
