WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING?

We have been targeting Barclays Bank in North Street again. Barclays are one of Europe’s largest investors in fossil fuels and are setting us on a path to disastrous climate crisis. If you have an account with Barclays or HSBC, do change to a more ethical bank and let Barclays and HSBC know why you are doing it.

WHAT’S NEXT?

We are building local momentum for the rebellion and rebuilding our working groups.

We want YOU to be a central part of our movement, a voice for change, and an inspiration to others!

Please join us on Thursday to make this happen.

This meeting will incorporate the coordination meeting.

XR BRIGHTON’S REBEL RISING

Sunday 15 August, Central Brighton (TBC)

As the IMPOSSIBLE REBELLION approaches, join us to connect, train and plan!

Calling new and seasoned rebels, friends, neighbours, and allies from Brighton and surroundings for a day of training, discussions, creativity, samba, and more! Get ready to make the IMPOSSIBLE possible – together!

Watch this space for details.

If anybody would like to mobilise for the rebellion through conversation, please join the new outreach group here: https://t.me/joinchat/QgpY8svOwvtlZDRk

We hope to do outreach on the streets and at the Rebel Rising event.

FREE POSTERS FOR REBELS

We have now received some fab new A3 posters promoting the rebellion. If you would like to pick some up, come to the Mobilise Brighton meeting at 6-7.30pm at the Level (behind the skate park) on Thursdays. Putting a poster up in your window or elsewhere can show people that they are not alone in their fears about the climate and build for the coming rebellion.

CROWDFUNDER LAUNCHED TO SUPPORT HORSEHILL REBELS

Brighton rebels, Alistair and Lindsay, have been ordered to pay £5,000 each for taking non-violent direct action against fossil fuel extraction. In October last year, they scaled an oil rig at Horse Hill, near Gatwick, and occupied it for a whole long, cold day. They took action on behalf of all of us. Let's show them they do not stand alone.

NEW PETITION: STOP INVESTING BRIGHTON & HOVE’S PENSION FUND IN FOSSIL FUELS!

Despite repeated calls for Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) to divest, the East Sussex Pension Fund – the local government pension scheme covering Brighton and Hove – still has tens of millions of pounds of local people’s pensions invested in fossil fuels.

Moreover, though BHCC and its employees make almost a third of annual contributions to the Fund, BHCC has no representation on the Fund’s decision-making body, the East Sussex Pension Committee (which consists entirely of East Sussex County councillors).

Please support the call for BHCC to be granted representation on the Pension Committee so that it can ensure that local people’s pensions are no longer being used to drive the climate crisis, by signing this online petition: https://tinyurl.com/divestbhpensions
