What’s Been Happening?

FREE THE PRESS MARCH

On Saturday June 26th Brighton rebels joined the Free the Press March in London. We gathered in Parliament Square for speeches, before marching to the HQ of News International at London Bridge. Four Billionaires control the majority of press outlets in this country. They are corrupting our democracy and refusing to tell the truth about climate change.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLE UNDER THREAT (AGAIN)

Members of Brighton XR took to the streets this week to protest the shocking lack of press coverage of what is happening in Brazil. The Bolsonaro government is trying to push through a bill that would allow for mining and agriculture on vast swathes of land currently under the control of indigenous peoples. Not only would this be disastrous for indigenous peoples, but it would cause further destruction of the Amazon rainforest.

BRIGHTON BIKE SWARM

9th July (Friday), 6pm

With some big decisions on cycling infrastructure due from the council over the next couple of months, it’s essential that we show support for this low-carbon, inclusive mode of transport. Cycling will only take off as mass transport if it can be done safely, which is why cycle lanes and traffic calming are so important.

Come and join our family-friendly Bike Swarm, departing Black Rock at 6pm on Friday 9 July. Dress brightly, make a noise and have fun!

We also need marshals on the day: please contact Miranda if you’d like to help. mimipellew@gmail.com
