Join a week for action!

From today to next Thursday (28th January) join our Covid-friendly week of Action for January.

The plan for a week of actions to encourage people to support the CEE BIll has had to be scaled back to things that can be delivered within the current lockdown. These will include:

The South East Regional CEE Bill banner will be in town for a bunch of photo ops. If you would like to help out or deploy and photograph the banner yourself please join the CEE Bill chat on Telegram
Cards and letters: Rebels write to friends and relatives across the country to support the bill.
Rebel Ringers: get involved and call signed up rebels to take action.
A range of sticker actions will be going on alongside all this.

Help needed with this newsletter

The XR Brighton newsletter team is a small but committed team who draft, edit and send out this newsletter every week, spreading the work of XR Brighton. We need two volunteers to help in the following areas:

A volunteer to help to write our weekly Brighton newsletter. Time commitment is around two hours per week.
A volunteer to help with publishing and sending out the newsletter. You will be well-organised and able to spare an hour or two each Friday (or Saturday sometimes). Some knowledge of HTML is useful.

Support the climate deputation to BHCC

Thursday 28th January

Brighton and Hove City Council (BHCC) is a major contributor to the East Sussex Pension Fund – the local government pension scheme for Brighton & Hove – which currently has over £100m of local people’s pensions invested in fossil fuels.

On Thursday 28 January climate campaigners in Brighton & Hove will be making a deputation to Brighton & Hove City Council, calling on it to demand adequate representation on the decision-making body for the Fund, the East Sussex Pension Committee (where it currently has no representation at all!).

Please support the deputation by spreading the word and contacting your local Councillors before the 28th.

Help us to get East Sussex County Council (ESCC) to answer!

Deadline Monday 1st February!

We need your help to get ESCC to answer a crucial question on climate and fossil fuels. For years now, ESCC - which runs the local government pension scheme covering Brighton and Hove - has rejected calls (from BHCC and others) to divest from fossils. They're also refusing to answer a crucial question about fossil fuel companies and 1.5C - despite this being submitted over 200 times to their last two meetings.

Please take two mins to email it to their next meeting.

We are members of XR looking at how movements can be divided when oppression goes unaddressed, offering practical tools to heal these divisions which affect our relationships as activists.
