A New Year to Save our Planet

Covid has cocooned us, but let’s not be afraid to continue the work at hand. Wherever you’re at – lockdown hibernation, making digital ripples, hitting the streets with creative subvertising designs, or plotting disruptive actions – you can help to save our planet.

A guide has been created by XRUK Action Circle offering a supportive actions framework for the months ahead. See the Guide

Week of Action

Saturday 23rd - Thursday 28th January

We are proposing a Week of Action for January. Actions booked so far are: SE Region CEE Bill banner display, two seafront strolls in Hove, pressure on Peter Kyle / Our Children's future / Greeting Card Push.

We are looking to Working Groups and Action Groups for further ideas and actions (eg Bike Swarm?) The focus should be on getting up and out after the festive season; sea air in our lungs, socially responsible 3D catch-ups, CEE Bill to the fore, wind at our backs. Start the New Year with renewed love for our planet. Hope to see all of you there! Details in the coming weeks!

Extinction Rebellion and climate change activism

Breaking The Law To Change The World - Book presentation

Thursday 21st January, 5:15-6:30pm

Oscar Berglund and Daniel Schmidt's new book, Extinction Rebellion and Climate Change Activism: Breaking the Law to Change the World, summarises and critiques XR as a social movement organisation, engaging with key issues surrounding its analysis, strategy and tactics. They suggest that XR has an underdeveloped and apolitical view of the kind of change necessary to address climate change, and that while this enables the building of broad movements, it is also an obstacle to achieving the systemic change that they are aiming for.

Oscar Berglund discusses XR and civil disobedience with a panel. Chaired by Andrew Kelly, director, Festival of Ideas. There will be time for questions, discussion, reflection and an opportunity to buy a copy using a discount code provided at the event.
