URGENT! Brighton and Hove City Council (BHCC) Whole Estate Plan (WEP) Consultation

Let’s have mass XR Brighton input into BHCC’s Whole Estate Plan! This is an opportunity not to be missed and spaces are going quickly! It’s great that the new Green Council administration is asking... Now we need to tell them what’s important. This unique ‘green belt’ owned by us is HUGE - over 12,000 acres. It is essential that climate and biodiversity action is at the core of that plan, carbon drawdown in particular. Don’t miss this chance to join the consultation sessions and speak up for the climate and biosphere.

Mock COP26

COP26 was due to be hosted in Glasgow this November but has been postponed due to COVID-19. Even through the pandemic, climate action must be a priority. That's why young people from all over the world have adjourned to hold their own Mock COP26 to show the world how to behave in a crisis. #ForTheYouthByTheYouth

At Mock COP26 the stage for leaders when they attend COP26 in November 2021 will be set. The conference will culminate in a global statement and vision by the youth of the world which would serve to raise ambition for COP26. Following Mock COP, our delegates will be supported by project staff to engage their own political delegates in the outcomes of Mock COP over the year to COP26.

Digital Action - put pressure on local divestment in fossil fuels

Over ninety members of the public submitted Divest East Sussex’s three key ‘This is a climate emergency!’ questions to East Sussex County Council’s last full council meeting on the 13th October. However, the Council has failed to answer any of these questions. Time to pile on the pressure!

Please take 2 minutes to email our new ‘Tell the truth about climate & fossil fuels!’ question to East Sussex County Council by 4pm on 23 November. (ESCC runs the Local Government Pension Scheme for Brighton and Hove.)

TED Circle - How to be a good ancestor

Wednesday 25th November, 7:50-9pm

Join our next TED Circle! We watch a TED video together then break into small groups for facilitated discussions. Usually we get through four questions. Groups reshuffle for each question.

We will discuss “How to be a good ancestor”. Our descendants own the future, but the decisions and actions we make now will tremendously impact generations to come, says philosopher Roman Krznaric. From a global campaign to grant legal personhood to nature to a groundbreaking lawsuit by a coalition of young activists, Krznaric shares examples of ways we can become good ancestors - or, as he calls them, "Time Rebels" - and join a movement redefining lifespans, pursuing intergenerational justice and practicing deep love for the planet.
