Meditation vigil in Solidarity with Colombia / Meditación y vigilia en solidaridad con Colombia

On Saturday 25th April 2020 at 11am in Bogota, Colombia and 5pm in the UK, we Extinction Rebellion in the UK, Colombia and across the world are gathering together for one hour.
At a time of pandemic lockdown and social distancing we will celebrate our connectedness and mutual respect and offer our peace and presence to one another. We had planned to do this in a public space but will now meet online via zoom.
Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, however, its ecosystems are endangered by mining, fracking, palm oil, and other extractivist activities. Indigenous communities and activists are fighting to protect the country’s biodiversity, but they are facing death while doing it: NBC news on Feb 23rd 2020 called Colombia the deadliest place on earth for activists, “more than 40 human rights defenders and community leaders killed since January this year according to Indepaz.” This situation has worsened during the pandemic lock down situation as death squads are exploiting the situation to kill activists (Guardian, 23rd March.)
Brighton XR Meditators are hosting this vigil in partnership with XR Bogota, to demonstrate our support for Colombian environmental activists. We will tell stories, honour those who have died through ritual, and celebrate the wonderful wildlife of Colombia that is under threat. We also want to show our support for the ongoing process in Colombia to protect its ecosystems. The crisis we are facing is global and we stand together with our fellow rebels across the world. We need each other now more than ever.
How to join the gathering
Please wear black if you can as a gesture of mourning.
You will see the name of a lost activist next to your name so that you can make a placard with the name written on, which you will be invited to hold up at a certain point in the ceremony. If you are not allocated a name, don't worry you can still take part! (Please note this session will be recorded, please switch off your video if you do not wish to be included in the recording.)

Extinction Rebellion Brighton y Extinction Rebellion Bogotá te invitan a participar el próximo 25 de abril a las 11am en Colombia y a las 5pm en el Reino Unido junto a activistas de otros países a meditar, conmemorar y ofrecer nuestra presencia y solidaridad en estos tiempos de crisis y distanciamiento social. Este evento iba a realizarse en el espacio público pero dadas las circunstancias tendrá lugar vía Zoom.
Colombia es uno de los países más biodiversos del mundo. Sin embargo, debido a la minería, el fracking y otras actividades extractivas sus ecosistemas se encuentran gravemente amenazados. Comunidades indígenas y activistas luchan para proteger la biodiversidad del país, pero al mismo tiempo se encuentran en peligro de muerte: NBC noticias reportó en febrero que Colombia es el país más peligroso en el mundo para ser activista, “más de cuarenta activistas por los derechos humanos fueron asesinados desde enero de este año de acuerdo a Indepaz”. Esta situación se ha visto agravada por la cuarentena en la que se encuentra el país, la cual está siendo aprovechada para continuar el asesinato sistemático de activistas (Guardian, Marzo 23 de 2020).
El grupo de meditadores de XR Brighton y XR Bogotá llevarán a cabo una vigilia para mostrar su apoyo a lxs activistas por el medio ambiente en Colombia. Nos reuniremos para contar historias, honrar la memoria de aquellxs que han sido asesinadxs, celebrar la riqueza de los ecosistema colombianos y la vida silvestre y mostrar nuestra solidaridad con las luchas existentes por protegerlos.
La crisis climática que vivimos es de carácter global y la enfrentamos juntxs rebeldes alrededor del mundo. ¡Ahora más que nunca debemos unirnos!

Registra tu asistencia en este enlace En la última columna verás el nombre de un activista, la idea es que para el evento tengas el nombre del activista que te correspondió escrito en un letrero. Si no tienes un nombre asignado, no hay problema, igual eres bienvenidx al evento. (Ten en cuenta que este evento será grabado en vídeo, apaga el vídeo en tu equipo si no quieres aparecer en el video final. )
