Faith At The Gate - Horse Hill

5th Apr 2020 16:00 - 16:30

Horse Hill, Horley, RH6 0, United Kingdom

Join us for a short peaceful inclusive contemplation and prayer time as we stand witness to the continued extraction of fossil fuels in the face of a climate emergency.

We will gather from all our faith groups at the site at 4pm. Meet at the monitoring camp junction of A217 and Horse Hill. Tea and cake will be served at camp at 3pm. We will make our way to the gates for a 4pm start.

Please bring a tea light in a jam jar and a small square prayer flag which can be pegged or tied to the fencing at the gate. Hi-viz jackets/ tabards and torches would be useful.

Please note that you do not have to be a 'paid up' member of a Faith Group to join us! The event will most probably involve a song, an inclusive prayer and some silence, so please come along for this symbolic act of solidarity with our earth and protest against it's desecration.

'United in Prayer for our Sacred Earth'

We will to retire to The Black Horse pub for a warm up and a chat afterwards.

Horse Hill Oil Production Site

Surrey County Council approved a huge expansion of oil drilling at a site near Gatwick called Horse Hill in September. This permit, provided to UK Oil & Gas, will make it the second biggest oil production site in the country, and could open the floodgates to many more applications to drill across the South East. In a time of climate emergency this decision must be challenged on all levels.
