Arrestee Support & Know Your Rights Training
BHASVIC (Room 25, part of Rebel Rising South East), 205 Dyke Rd, BN3 6EG
This training explores (in four separate sessions) how arrestables and their supporters can best prepare and make informed decisions for taking action:
12.30 - Arrestee Support - Preparation. Understanding the considerations involved in taking action, supporting those involved and being well prepared.
1.30 Police Station Support - Coordinating, greeting and offering care to rebels upon their release from police stations. Coordinators are based away from the actions and should be ready to go to police stations across London and further afield.
2.30 Post-Arrest Liaison - helping arrestees navigate their way through the post arrest process and through the courts. This is a listening and signposting role - it is not counselling or legal advice.
3.30 Know Your Rights - understanding what are your rights when dealing with the police: what happens during a stop and search and what happens during an arrest. The training will also consider the consequences of an arrest or conviction and the types of charges rebels may face. It also covers what happens when a rebel goes to court. This training seeks to raise awareness of process, consequences and potential outcomes for rebels but it is not formal legal advice.
This event is part of the Rebel Rising, a regional gathering for all Extinction Rebels (or those interested in getting involved), to CONNECT - BUILD - PLAN - CELEBRATE!
It’s all about getting ready for the Worldwide Rebellion in London, 7th October. For more about the day's events, see here:
